Tony Rickaby studied at Portsmouth College of Art and St.Martin’s School of Art and then worked with the Archigram and Light/Sound Workshop groups.
His works dealing with the relationship between art, popular culture and politics were seen in such exhibitions as 'Radical Attitudes to the Gallery', 'Art For Society' and 'Art From the British Left' whilst his conceptual works, installations and paintings, looking at such issues as ideological and political power and urban survival, were shown throughout Europe and the US, including solo exhibitions at Franklin Furnace and Printed Matter in New York, at Central Space and the Standpoint Gallery in London and Colette in Paris and such group exhibitions as East International and Whitechapel Open.
More recently he has also produced animations, visual poems and writings for websites such as 'Drunken Boat', 'Locus Novus', 'London Poetry Systems' and 'Streecake'. In 2009 his exhibitions included 'Age & Memory', Riverside Gallery, Richmond, 'Unfolding', Chapel Gallery, Ormskirk and 'In Their Own Words', Bank Street Arts, Sheffield. Current work looks at histories, observations and memories of south London.
