Rich Mix Gallery Mission
With its prime position in East London’s gallery heartland, Rich Mix Gallery is a space where the work of emerging and established artists is exhibited shoulder to shoulder throughout the year. While providing a platform for professional development and mentoring opportunities, Rich Mix Gallery has an estimated footfall of 10,000 people a month and overlooks Rich Mix’s busy bar, which plays host to live music and spoken word events seven nights a week. Gallery entry is free, open-to-all, and attracts a diverse audience of art-lovers and customers who use Rich Mix on a daily basis to attend concerts, films and workshops.
The ethos of the gallery is to showcase work that reflects the cultural diversity of East London and its artistic community, one of the most vibrant urban areas in the world. The Gallery space will be a likely focus of the forthcoming Olympic Games, offering visitors the opportunity to discover hidden talent in the East End. Launching in January 2011 with a show from acclaimed African-American artist Ben Jones, the gallery’s programme will feature one international show per year, showcases by young artists, collaborations with art world professionals and local art institutions such as UEL and Alternative Arts. The gallery will present work from a range of media, including photography, painting, sculpture and audio-visual installations. An open call for exhibition proposals from artists and curators extends throughout the year. For exhibition enquiries and application assistance, please contact visualarts@richmix.org.uk.
