I am interested in gaps in communication, non-verbal dialogues and, within this, human error. My work often follows a process that, as well as mapping the communication of an object, is a process of removing it from its original form. I explore how flawed communication brings with it an element of chance or something out of my control and produces something with little obvious connection to its origin. These interests derived from working with people with severe and profound learning difficulties, who had little or no verbal communication, and was initially concerned with finding ways of having a non-verbal dialogue. Other influences include museological collections and educational resources.
