Artist and researcher, currently working on photographic self-portraiture.
I’ve been working on photography and self-portraiture for some years now. In the course of these years my approach has oscillated between the reassuring gestures of narcissism to some less reassuring doppelgänger encounters. My aim is not to represent the self per se but to unfold the contradiction between personal and social; between the measured space of one’s self-impressions and the complex panorama of one’s surroundings, in which the self exists as a generalized actor. Technically, this distinction refers to the distance taken from the photographic camera and the use of narrative devices such as polyphase images, gestures, symbols, repetition, referentiality etc. These I use to develop a bigger picture, inspired by principles of cultural relativism, which questions the presumed wholeness of bodies in their everyday existence.
