My installation work is inspired by the notion of the double take, of thinking you know what you are looking at and then finding out it is something different. By projecting looped video onto painted canvas and fading the projection in and out I reveal an apparently moving image as frozen in paint. My most recent work which was shown at the Oxo Tower in London over Easter, focused on Blackfriars station. The location of the camera, framing of the image, painted and projected space are all carefully considered. By creating an unlikely partnership between video and painting I hope to explore cultural conditioning and challenge our ideas of truth and illusion, of the transient and the material.

I have a Masters degree in Painting from Winchester School of Art. Alongside my installation work I am also exploring ways of capturing moving images on canvas. The pixel and 'passing' series document my attempts to capture an abstract video which is projected onto canvas as I work. This is ongoing research which again explores the boundaries between video and painting.
