“Themes of sexuality, identity and the self are all recurring subjects that are constant in my work. I delve into these themes and explore them through the structure of the male body/form and through self-portraiture, which are imbued with layers, gestures, fragments and shadows, constructed into a physical collage of body dialogues”.
I am interested in conveying information that is transmitted through body, personal encounters and the ‘unconscious body’ known as ‘the shadow’, a Jungian concept and underlying principle to the human psyche.
I consider these in both a collective form and as a separate entity. I channel this most explicitly and with conviction through my own body, appearing in my work in several guises, presenting a new face or mannerism inserting myself into new circumstances, flirting with prior ones, and creating altered dialogues.
My work is quiet, complex and laced with ambiguities, that demands the viewer’s time to understand and make sense of its meaning, interpreting to the viewer their own multi-layered experiences. What I produce is with a level of intuition. In my fine art practice, I work and think across disciplines and practice boundaries engaging in a diverse range of media to create my work. The process results in the repetition of imagery. Echoes and trace elements emerge, the personal element shaping these into ‘gestured’, ‘sexualised’ and ‘fragmented’ bodies, contributing to a collective of dialogue.
