I am passionate about drawing as it acts as a movement of the mind, which provide a structure on which to develop ideas that challenges how I see myself in relation to the world.

I am attracted to materials that are familiar to me as a child, these materials act as a bridge between my past and present. Everyday environment and the things that occupy them inspire me. I draw from childhood memories and sensibilities as a means to construct a narrative that explores identity, scale, status and inadvertently politics.

My current body of work reassesses the boundary of painting / collage, questioning what constitutes as painting within contemporary art and how does my painting reveal a deeper aspect of myself and the world in which I live.

I am drawn towards objects in environments that have ambiguous or multiple meanings, the status of which rise and fall depending on the context. The way in which we view the world around us is not set in concrete; instead it changes depending on a wide range of circumstances.

By trying to push creative boundaries, ultimately I question the line between reality and make believe. In my opinion, it’s amazing (and scary – depending on your viewpoint) how easily we slip through the cracks of reality and reside in a world partly of our own making.

I explore constructed places and identities, filtered through my hippocampus and combined with my adult anxieties and my experiences. The subject matter is inspired by my aspirations and failures and ultimately the functional fiction I use to brighten up the vagaries of reality.

My work tends to be realised through an amalgam of digital imagery, cardboard sculpture and painted elements, the status of which rises and falls depending on the context, but, all the while alluding to an ever shifting understanding of myself, place and time.

I am after a flexible art that devours itself: forever a fairy castle to the hopeless drunk inside.
