My work is concerned with memory, how we remember places and incidents from our
past. I strive to create artwork that has an instant impact combined with an underlying sonority that slowly reveals itself when you spend time with the piece. My influences are broadly ranged from Renaissance painters to the graphic language and use of hot colours on the punk LP covers that originally inspired me to go to Art College. My work was largely figurative for a long period prior to moving into abstraction. On liberating myself from figurative objectives, I found that I was able to reacquaint myself with colour and form in its purest sense and began to paint in a more instinctive way. The abstract works are however, still influenced by the figurative tradition, often having a sense of perspective and depth as well as elements of classical composition. I strive not to over-analyse what I'm doing whilst I'm working as this tends to derail the creative process, but I know where I am going with each painting; creating an emotional arena using colour and shape as my raw materials and my reactions to these elements as a compass.

I was born in Chichester in the shadow of the South Downs. I had an early interest in making pictures as a boy, which quickly developed into the desire to become anartist when I saw a powerful Picasso sculpture in France at the age of 12. At school I made posters for a punk band to promote local gigs taking my inspiration from the groundbreaking new graphic styles at the time. I studied art at foundation level at West Sussex college of Design, going on to complete a degree in Fine Art at Cardiff Art College. I have spent periods of my life living and exhibiting in both Barcelona and Holland and I currently live and have a studio in Hove in East Sussex. I exhibit at the Brighton Art Fair and selected galleries nationwide throughout the year.
