Life can be likened to a movie shown only once to a captive audience of one, a darkened auditorium in which the level of illumination is a decision for the solitary occupant. To see the light we must first acknowledge that we are in the dark.

I am a reluctant human being and society is my confinement, a prison in which the inmates have been convinced that really they are free. My gaolers are troubled by their own shallows, the fears they have of others are the fears they have about themselves cunningly repackaged to increase their legal appeal.

Monika K. Adler is a photography artist, filmmaker, actress and writer, founder of international company Monika K. Adler Entertainment specializing in contemporary art photography & film. Adler graduated from the School of Fine Arts ( Art & Design ) and the European Academy of Photography in Warsaw/Poland : Creation & Expressionism. My work is an exploration of human behaviour, not direcly from life, but through available contemporary media such as films, digital imagery (Internet screen shots, computer games, scanned magazines, newspapers photos, etc.). These found images often convey a straightforward message which I would qualify as "prêt à consommer" (ready to consume). I then transform them, blurring their initial meaning in order to
propose alternative narratives allowing the viewer to revisit our social habits and history from different perspectives.

Christine Philipp challenges the traditional expectation of representation and perception. She chooses day-to-day subject matters and estranges them from their original context and meaning. Ordinary places as a garage, playground or staircase are turned into distant and quiet environments. Through personal intervention her subjects become distorted and result in images that create an ‘unheimlich’ atmosphere. Christine has the ability to restrict her images to their barest essentials; she has the gift to show only what is really necessary.
