Within my site responsive drawings, installations and objects, I am fascinated with the interplay between the spatial, conceptual, and architectonic conditions of a place. Through an accumulative means of building with utilitarian materials, industrial felt, paper towels, clothing, new and used hospital and bath towels, I make structures that address mass and void, line, weight, density, compression and expansion. Within these qualities, I find parallels in the physical and psychological states of the body, and the human condition.

It is important for me to use my work as a means of exploring and potentially understanding human behaviour as manifested through images it constructs of itself. Typically, my practice involves a number of strategies such as exploration of popular mass media, philosophical texts, and speculative fiction, which I build into a ‘cosmology’ using imagined myth, symbol and fable. My practice both reflects and is placed within these imagined cosmologies.

The central strand within my work is a form of personal / subjective realism. I believe in painting, not as a conservative or retrograde art form, but as an intimate art form which possesses deeper undisclosed possibilities, despite its long and rich history.
