The new ArtSelector Contemporary Art Directory
The ArtSelector Contemporary Art Collective is changing to the ArtSelector Contemporary Art Directory or 'ACAD' for short. Our new international directory will showcase the very best in new contemporary art with an emphasis on innovation, originality and critical engagement.
Curators from around the world already regularly use ArtSelector to source the right artists for their contemporary art shows and projects because they know that the quality of our listed artists work is always exceptional and entirely appropriate for exhibiting within a contemporary context. ArtSelector is a uniquely trusted resource for sourcing outstanding contemporary art - primarily because all of our selected artists are listed free of charge on the strength of their artwork alone - unlike other contemporary art resources artists cannot buy a place in our directory. Our new ACAD directory will make it much easier for curators and galleries to access the work of our listed artists, select their art profiles and contact them with exhibiting opportunities. The new directory will also make it more convenient for collectors wishing to invest in contemporary art or to commission new works to contact our artists.
How do Artists gain a place in the new directory?
If you don't already have an account with us the first step is to register for free with ArtSelector now. A place in the ArtSelector Contemporary Art Directory is completely free - but we are only able to accept professional contemporary artists and organisations who have a critically engaged practice / programme and are producing / exhibiting exceptional work. In this way we will build the very best international directory of contemporary art. Registered ArtSelector members will find an 'Apply for ACAD' button on their user account page (to register with ArtSelector first go here). This button leads to an application page where they can submit an application as either an individual or as a gallery / organisation. Applications are reviewed regularly by our panel of contemporary art professionals and successful applicants are informed by email. Our panel will only consider well presented and fully completed art profile pages - applicants with single line statements or missing profile pictures will not hold their attention.
Accepted artists will then find three image tabs on their art profile page through which they can upload, title and classify images of their work to be shown in the ACAD directory.
Why don't you just give everyone a place?
We want to build a meaningful and coherent directory to showcase the very best work by emerging and established international contemporary artists. This can only be achieved through a selection process. ArtSelector was never intended to be a free media sharing social network service such as Flickr, Facebook or YouTube - we are a focused contemporary art project concerned with professional networking.
Who are the panel?
The ACAD selection panel is currently made up of 5 contemporary art professionals including curators, critics and academics based in London, Berlin and New York. Selectors generally stay with us for between 1 month and 6 months depending on their other commitments. Active selectors remain anonymous and must remain so during their engagement with ArtSelector. Anyone interested in applying to join the panel in the future should contact ArtSelector here.
What if my application is unsuccessful?
Inevitably, because this is a focused project many directory applicants will be unsuccessful. This is in no way a reflection on the general quality of their art work or their skills as an artist - if your application is unsuccessful it simply means that the current panel decided that they could not award you a place based on the details you presented on your art profile page. Our selection panel line-up changes at least once a month so you could always update your art profile page and re-apply - but please first look through the current directory members and artworks and consider carefully if your work really fits in amongst this type of work. The panel will not offer reasons or explanations for their decisions and will not enter into any correspondence regarding them.
What if I had work in the previous ArtSelector collection?
The previous ArtSelector collection pages have now been archived but If you were lucky enough to be one of our collection artists you will automatically have been awarded a place in the new directory - however: to keep your place it is vital that you fully complete your art profile page by adding your profile image, artist's statement and upload images of your work using the image tabs on your art profile page. If you do not do this you will lose your place in the directory.
The new ArtSelector Contemporary Art Directory is an ongoing, evolving project but currently consists of an artworks and an art profile listing page. You can view them by clicking the Art and Profiles tabs in the menu above.
