BFA Concordia University, Montreal, 1983. Moved to New York in 1983, MFA Hunter College, 1985. Left New York, 1988, for various places in Europe, including Florence and Glasgow. In 1991, moved to Spain, then to London in 1995, and back to Spain in 2005, commuting frequently to London. After painting and exhibiting for over fifteen years, Zev Robinson began working on photography, digital and new media projects in 1999.
artafterscience was formed as a collaboration with Adrian Marshall to explore the interaction between art, science, and technology, and to create time-based art with the emphasis on content and issues of contemporary culture.
Zev Robinson has created around 30 videos that have been exhbited internationally, and has curated screenings and exhibitions.
In 2005, the Arts Council, England awarded a grant to artafterscience to develop an interactive media project, which in turn led to the development of new projects.
Many projects have been developed in collaboration with musicians, poets, performers, and scientists. This has included Randomness and Certainty, a project interviewing 50 scientists and shown at the DANA Centre in London, live video performances in London, Valencia, and in Sweden when Zev Robinson was invited by Walter Thompson to be the video artist at a Soundpainting Thinktank.
Zev Robinsons created the video installation Caravaggio Dying based on the poem by Edward Lucie-Smith that has been shown in Helskini, Lithuania, and Venice.
La Noche Electoral, a video installation created in collaboration with Los Torreznos who represented Spain at the Venice Biennale was shown at ARCO, the Optica and VAD video festivals, and at the Venice Video Art Festival. Zev Robinson has worked with dancers and performers in several videos using common everyday movements and scenarios.
A series of multimedia boxes and constructions that combine old and new media and that cross the line between Zev Robinson’s own work and his collaboration are new being developed, and can be seen at www.zrdesign.co.uk/html_boxes/index.htm At the same time, he continues working on paintings and drawings based on images taken from film noir, pulp fiction covers, and Old Master paintings.
