Odette England's work explores issues of identity as they relate to memory. She strives to represent the illusion and distraction of how we feel about being ‘ourselves’ and where we come from. Her aim is to raise issues of how we perceive memory and how little we understand about its intimate relationship to personality, mood, mental state and geography.
England is particularly interested in the complexities of recording and assigning identity through photography, and how it can reflect, misrepresent or complicate a situation. She uses her camera to probe the delicate balance between who we think we are versus who others say we are.
