“They landed in a huge circle of white dust, with a rim of sharp-looking rocks all the way round the outside. Everything was bathed in harsh colourless light, like moonlight but ten times as powerful. In the middle of the circle of rock was a massive square stone slab, and on the slab, flat on his back, lay a giant with his eyes closed.”
The children fly with some owls to the moon, where they meet the Queen of the Night and hear the story of Pandora and Prometheus. The seventh chapter of twelve.

“Tired as they were, they almost ran up the last part of the stair, and found themselves in another cave; but it was completely different to the one with the snake in it. As far as they could see by the light of the box, it was crammed with old bric-a-brac: bits and pieces of every possible description, some of them valuable but most of them not, thrown together in a horrendous jumble, stacked up high above their heads, and covered in dust and cobwebs. There were walking-sticks, pith helmets, books, dolls, carpets, bottles, pens, games of Monopoly, stuffed animals, false teeth, family photographs, toy trucks, maps, birthday cards, pram wheels, diaries, screwdrivers, umbrellas, plugs, pianos, old coins, kettles, picture frames, odd shoes, Gladstone bags, wooden legs, rocking chairs, someone's PE kit, and so on and so on and so forth and so forth – like the contents of the biggest, dirtiest and most badly-organised second-hand shop in the world.”
The children encounter a shape-shifter called Ratatosk, who tells them about the snake they have seen, a tree called Yggdrasil, some owls, and the Queen of the Night. Dora rediscovers one of her old dolls, and Ratatosk explains how possessions get lost so easily, and why things don't always work when they ought to.
The sixth chapter of twelve.

Table 23
Wednesday 9th July - Friday 11th July, 8pm - £8/£6
Timmy Mallett once used the toilets of the Mermaid cafe! But empty seats attract empty people, in a city where everyone is constantly searching for their someone. What is it to be lonely? What's behind the pasta promises and facebook facade? Window seat madam? Take Table 23!!
'Table 23' is set in the humdrum yet monotone life of a backstreet Italian restaurant in London, and takes a look at people passing through. Seen through the eyes of one lonely man, the lives of his fellow others appear mesmerising and spectacular, a far cry from his own. But who can define loneliness? The stories are told through a mish mash of physical and visual work, incorporating elements of clowning, puppetry and acrobats, fused with moments of truth, honesty, and vulnerability.
Double Bill: Transaction and The Absurdity of VanillaTues 15 – 16, Sat 19 July, 8pm - £8/6
‘TRANSACTION’ Three disillusioned investment bankers make off with government money. It’s simple…until dying pimps, doppelgangers and philosophical sheep get involved. The Italian Job set in Iraq, with a sheep playing Michael Caine. “One of this year’s star turns” (2006). The Absurdity of Vanilla. Playful tale of social conditioning. Why do Britons like missionary more than any other sexual position? Why turn down a choc-chip sundae for a vanilla scoop and drooping wafer? “One of this year’s star turns” (2006).
Cure
Monday 21st July - Wednesday 23rd July, 8pm
£10/£6 (£8/£6 in advance)
Finding the cure for cancer- every scientist's dream. But with everyone hungry for the cure, will the dream become a nightmare? Suicide is out. Sacrifice is in. They said the secret to man's survival lay within us all- we just didn't know they meant it literally.
With every Shylock after his pound of flesh and the NHS after the offcuts, no one is safe from becoming a donor. Taking a sideways glance at everything from cannibalism to the National Health Service, Cure is a blackly comic social satire, delving into a shadowy underworld where nothing is what it seems. Stark, sexy, satirical, combining live music with punchy dialogue, Tooth & Nail bring their own electric brand of theatre to the Edinburgh Fringe.
They say you are what you eat- so why is everyone still dying?
What all the Rabbits are Doing
Tursday 24th July - Friday 25th July, 8pm - £10/£6

A Night at the Dogs
Sun 25th May, 22th June, 20th July 7pm -£3
Regular MC Nick Helm (The Human Car Crash of Light Entertainment) returns with his legion of funny friends.
The definitive Monthly one stop comedy shop on the Isle of Dogs featuring Stand-Up, Music and Cabaret from the hottest new acts on the circuit.
Improv’s Dog
Tue 15th June,13th July 8pm- £10/8
Improv's Dog are the greatest thing in improvised comedy since sliced bread...making stuff up...in the bread bin. Don't believe us? Good. We're lying. It's better than that...It's like a spontaneous version of Kylie Minogue's bottom. If you're new to improv, that's a good thing. If you're an old hand then you'll see all of your favourite games plus some you might have never seen, for they lurk in the shadows of the draw you never use that only seems to have in it old phone chargers and your one, black tie.
We don't know what'll happen and neither do you. That's the point. That's the fun. In fact, we've even improvised this blurb.
Mr. Carruthers Presents: Peel This
Saturday 7 June – Sun 8 June, 8pm - -£6/£5
Friend, entreprenuer, philanthropist, millionaire oil tycoon, ex-President of a small (undisclosed) country, friend to the great and good- Mr Carruthers is all of these things, and at the same time seemingly none of them. Magick! Adventure! Romance! Tax! These are the tenets by which Mr Carruthers lives his life. It should also be noted that a little bit of Mr Carruthers a day has been medically proven to prevent terrorism in small beings.
Mr Carruthers Presents... is a rag-tag team of loyal supporters gathered together through time and space by the enigmatic and shadowy Mr Carruthers. These are those whom Carruthers has met on his many travels across the globe and other globes (and, indeed, some orbs), those individuals whom he feels are best able to communicate his unique and gentle message to the world at large. At any time, Mr Carruthers always carries a heavily muscular and mutant barman on his staff, and is rarely glimpsed without an un-necessary magician near his person. He also has a pair of talking trousers with a repertoire of truly filthy jokes.

"Urizen separated out a region from the rest of eternity, shrank it into solid matter, weighed it in his scales, measured it with his rods and plumblines, circumscribed it with his compasses, and wrote laws for it in his great brass-bound books. This sorry region, the region over which Urizen rules, is the universe in which we live..."
The children are kidnapped, then meet a visionary in a field of skylarks, and hear a new story about the creation of the world. They are pursued by baddies in black cars, who seem to be after the box.

In Seven years the BNP vote has grown 97 fold, polling over 3,000 votes in 2000 to over 292,000 in 2007. If the BNP's vote trend continues they could be on course to make a significant breakthrough into British politics. This year the BNP will be standing candidates in the London Assembly and local elections across Britain. In previous London Assembly elections in 2004 the BNP missed getting elected by a mere 0.1%. The BNP's election to the Assembly would signal the biggest breakthrough by a fascist organisation in British politics.
London has strong anti-fascist tradition from the Jewish and Irish communities, trade unions and others defeating the Blackshirts at Cable Street in the 1930s, campaigns against the National Front by the Anti-Nazi League and Rock Against Racism in the 1970s and the defeat of the BNP in Millwall in 1994.
This conference will discuss strategies that have been successful in defeating fascism by uniting trade unions, Muslim, Jewish, Christian and other faiths, black, Asian, lesbian, gay and disabled communities.
Our last conference in February 2007 brought together over 600 delegates from around the country, a broad range of speakers reflected the diversity of our movement including trade unions, students, Muslim, Jewish, Sikh, Hindu and African Caribbean communities, lesbian and gay rights campaigners, celebrities, politicians and many others.

SCAW
Sunday 3rd February - 7:30pm, £10/6
SCAW are a bass clarinet and piano duo specializing in contemporary music. Sarah Watts (bass clarinet) and Antony Clare (piano) founded the duo in 2003 and have performed around the UK and at the World Bass Clarinet Convention in Holland.
Their concert for Enterprise 08 will include music and art by the British composer and artist Marc Yeats, whose original prints are created by focusing on very small areas found in a number of the artist’s larger oil paintings. The images are captured and developed through processes that explore and enhance color and texture, discovering new worlds and abstract forms that exist in the smallest details of much larger works. The concert also features works by composers Dagmar Feyen, Alicia Grant, Iain Matheson, Arvo Part and Elizabeth Winters.

Volunteer Access Assistants collect Shape Tickets members from their homes, enjoy the event with them and take them home again afterwards. You’ll get a free ticket the performance or exhibition, and can even claim back your expenses.
“It is a win/win situation – you get to help other people while having a great time yourself!”
- Khursheed, Shape Tickets volunteer
We are looking for people London-wide to be volunteer Access Assistants. Volunteers should be willing to commit to doing at least one trip every month, but hours are very flexible as events take place on evenings and afternoons, midweek and weekends. The only pre-requisites are that you have a full valid driving licence and access to a car. All volunteers will receive disability awareness training prior to their first trip.
To find out more about becoming a volunteer, call Shape Tickets on 020 7619 6166, minicom 020 7619 6161, email volunteer@shapearts.org.uk or visit our website www.shapearts.org.uk/shapetickets/
