When you create some content you will see a section at the bottom of the form called 'File Attachments'. If you click on the name it will expand in to an upload box. Here you can click on 'choose file' followed by the 'attach' button to add your Jpeg images. Note that images will not be saved until you click on the final 'submit' button - but don't click this until you are happy with the rest of your post (you might want to use 'preview' to check your text formatting etc).
The great thing about this method is that your images appear in a mini lightbox style slide-show. We use this where we can throughout the artselector site.
Just go ahead and experiment with your posts - you won't break anything.
(and even if you do we won't hold it against you!)
Contributing images on their own isn't such a good idea. Content (apart from groups, blogs and forums) are moderated and we prefer images to be supported by text - so if you want to share some images here on artselector putting them into articles, news stories, reviews, blogs etc will give you a much better chance of having your submitted images posted. Single images would have to be quite exceptional to be accepted on their own.
Incidentally each users art profile has a photo strip - which is a good place to show images of your work - especially if you don't have a portfolio listing in the gallery - and if the user in question is not an artists they can use this photo strip for other types of images.
To contribute your content just use the 'create content' drop-down menu, which you will find at the top right of both the news and network pages.

Great. I suppose you could also just use the 'Image' content type - if you don't have much to say but just want to share an image.
