Frequently Asked Questions

A guide to using artselector in the form of common questions and answers. This guide will be updated shortly - If you can't find your question answered below please contact us using the contact link in the top menu.

The artselector contemporary art collective was originally set up by MA Fine Art graduates of Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design and the Royal College of Art.

artselector offers an innovative visual directory of international contemporary artists, independent curators and galleries.

Register / login and using the menu tab at the top of the page go to:  My Account > Edit Account

Here you can adjust your basic account settings such as your registered email address, your account password, your notification settings and your locale / timezone.  You should also upload an image for your art profile here in the 'Picture' section.  If you are an artist you might want to choose an image that represents your work rather than yourself as your art profile image will be visible throughout the site.

Next, to add texts and links to your art profile page go to:  My Account > User Profile

Fill in the various fields to add content to your art profile page.  Most fields are optional, but the more information you provide about yourself the more your Art Profile page will appear in searches.

We recommend that you fill in the Art Tags section - these will show up as clicikable links on your page, note: you must enter each Art Tag words separated by a comma, ie: sculpture, drawing, conceptual,   otherwise they won't work properly.

To add images to your profile page click on the 'Images' tab.  Here you will find upload boxes  to submit up to 8 images of your work.

In the first instance you should upload some images of your work in the photo section of your art profile page. To do this first register / login and using the menu at the top of the page go to:

My Account  >  User Profile  and then select the Media tab.

Here you will find upload boxes to submit up to 8 images of your work.  We are always on the look out for fresh, critically engaged contemporary art and regularly review art profile pages.  It's a good idea to make yourself more visible on the site by interacting on forums, starting your own group, submitting news items and other content.  When you login you will find a Create Content menu in the left hand navigation section and also at the top right of the News and Network pages - use it!

By drawing attention to yourself our admissions panel is much more likely to notice you and your work!

artselector is a site specifically for contemporary art. By this we mean art that is critically engaged and creating some kind of discourse.

The instructions below are only for registered artselector artists who have been awarded a full portfolio.  If you do not have a full portfolio you can still add images of your work to your art profile page by logging in and going to 'My Account' > 'User Profile' > 'Images'.  As an artselector portfolio owner you can manage and showcase your contemporary art images, videos and audio recordings, online in your own album(s). There are many features available but in this guide we cover the basics to get you started.

Our currently supported / preferred file types are:

Image JPEG

Audio MP3

Video SWF, FLV, MOV, Embedded links: all hosts supported - youtube, yahoo, google etc.

Preparing your files

*** To ensure that your images appear correctly on artselector please make sure that they are in standard RGB format (CMYK ones will not display properly) and that they measure 700 pixels at the widest edge before uploading each of them ***

We also recommend that you name your files appropriately on your computer before you upload them to artselector, avoiding non-descriptive numeric titles, such as the ones digital cameras generate (DSC00231, etc) and do not use spaces or the following unrecognisable characters when naming your file: ~!@#$%^&*()+.
