The San Marino Modern and Contemporary Art Gallery is glad to announce the beginning of the exhibition series GUEST, with the double personal exhibition dedicated to Daniela Carati and Nico Macina.

The project, planned with a triennial continuity, is organized by the Modern and Contemporary Art Gallery and curated by Massimiliano Messieri. Two are its significant functions, one is that of investigating on making art in San Marino and the other is that of joining the international circuits. This first cycle of three exhibitions offers three Sammarinese artists the opportunity to relate and converse with as many artists of different nationalities who have been active for years internationally.

The project is supported by a militant critic, this year Valerio Dehò, who in every bi-personal exhibition will work side by side with a young Sammarinese critic. The first exhibition confronts two artists, Daniela Carati and Nico Macina, who use the photographical medium as the expressive instrument of their poetics.

Daniela Carati presents a small part of her recent project “ALL ALL and ALL”. Nine medium or large photographs, of which three belonging to the first phase and six, unexhibited before, to the second phase, in which the rarefaction of man and the presence of the animal reveal dream-like urban landscapes, disturbing and playful at the same time. In “ALL ALL and ALL” Daniela Carati, re-interpreting Rousseau’s thought, analyzes the theme of the cultural evolution, revealing the fears and the dreams of man.

The Sammarinese artist Nico Macina presents the triptych “SPECIAL GUEST”, contemporary revisit of the Last Supper. In this work of art of large dimensions, Macina faces the Augustinian theme of the atemporality of the being. The tablecloth, set with bread, wine and thirteen plates and glasses, an icon of the European historical memory, directs the reading towards the waiting of the guests. To paraphrase Augustine, time exists only in one’s soul: the future exists as expectation, the past as memory.
