Mark and Movement, An Exhibition of Drawings by Kate Smith

Kate’s current body of work began in 2002 and deals with the marks and residues we leave behind as we move through spaces, and investigates drawing as an expression of gesture, mark, imprint and trace.

The work reveals an individual moving through space and explores the differences between marks consciously made, and those which imply the presence of another.

The exhibition concentrates on ‘reveal’ drawings, marks of movement created by wax applied to hands and feet, exposed with pencil.

Alongside, are large drawings of unconscious scribbles and scrawls painstakingly recreated with ballpoint pen.
