Stefan Annerel Free

Movement is implied also in the colourful paintings by artist Stefan Annerel (born 1970, Dendermonde, Belgium). The point of departure for his work is the strange feeling that in glossy magazines it remains unclear which colour has been printed first—what is on top and what is underneath. Under the top gloss that is typical of these magazines, the colours start to dance among each other. Bearing this visual experience in mind, layer upon layer Annerel, too, creates seductive paintings with varied patterns. He interweaves horizontal and vertical strips of variegated colours; they overlap or pass each other. Focus long enough on the colour areas and patterns that emerge, and you will see that in this instance, too, the colours begin to move.
