Issue 1: The Sound Edition
Welcome to the first edition of the new format ArtSelector Magazine. Over the coming months we will be working with a range of artists, writers and galleries to bring you coverage of some the most exciting developments in contemporary art. We’ve searched high and low (through the wealth of our own directory and beyond) to bring you these reports so please read, on and enjoy!
This month, we will be focusing on all things sound, including an in-depth look at SoundFjord, the UK’s only gallery dedicated to Sound Art, an exhibition review of Proto Bla at Elevator Gallery and artist David Strang answers our Profile Pick questions. At the other end of the sonic scale, Freelance Writer, Claire Bell reviews Sarah Maitland’s The Book of Silence, giving us an insight into the delights of a world in which sound is at a minimum.

Audiograft
With an event such as Audiograft just a stone’s throw away, I’m particularly disappointed to have missed out on what sounds like a diverse and captivating week of sonic action. This annual event was produced by the Sonic Art Research Unit at Oxford Brookes University, and ran from 14th – 20th February 2011. Those of us that didn’t make it this time can also see a good review of the final night by David Murphy here http://www.musicinoxford.co.uk/2011/02/22/rhodri-davies-automated-noise-ensemble-stephen-cornford-paul-whitty-james-kelly-shit-i-can-dj-modern-art-oxford-190211/. Also revealing a bit more about Audiograft, including interviews with the artists is the informative and absorbing podcast below, produced by Felicity Ford : http://soundcloud.com/sonic-art-research/audiograft-preview
