Big Breaths, Digital Film 2006/7

In Big Breaths we see a lone woman masturbating whilst breathing through lungs placed on top of her body. This piece was conceived fairly early in my current line of research. The main goal of this piece was to exaggerate the carnal in sexuality, but then to eroticise it beyond the base. There is reference with the music and the fact that the protagonist is female, whom which we view voyeuristically perhaps, to the mythological porn movie. The sound is panned and intended for headphone so that the music is a background noise and the breathing is close so it feels you almost have your head upon the woman’s chest. I wanted to create an intensity of experience with these effects and with the ‘uncomfortable’ close up shots. As with most of my works my intentions are mixed between arousal, repulsion and humour, and all responses are welcomed equally, though I think arousal would in this case be my most interesting achievement.
