The Park Bench Project, Nottingham
The Park Bench Project - for Nottingham.
As part of a discotheque project entitled 'Coryates Crudities' Bram traveled to Nottingham for a conference entitled NANANA. Whilst there the group undertook various psycho-geogrpahical explorations of the city. Bram took a performance project from a city he knew well onto the unknown streets of Nottingham.
Exploring on foot Bram visited the hubs and forgotten wastelands of the city in search of park benches. After spending time on each chosen bench Bram would leave behind a note held on with gaffer tape describing something of the interplay between him and the surrounding environment. Other members of Discotheque were set the challenge of keeping track of Brams' movements by searching for the notes, that were also discordantly discovered by members of the public, sometimes torn down, sometimes commented upon and argued over.
The Park Bench Project was initially undertaken in Oxford, a city Bram had developed an intimate relationship with over some years, the two projects, hung together were an insight into familiarity and defamiliarization.
